Much have been written in the last few years about the fact that men and women do not communicate effective. Researchers have found that there are several reasons for this. A main one seem to be that men and women use talk for different purposes. According to researcher Deborah Tannen, men use speech as a way of assert, and keep their status within a group. Women use them to create closeness and intimate. So, in one sense, men speak to try to keeping people away and women speak to try to bring them close. And, women view talking as something to do therefore men generally see it as a means for get something done. Furthermore, when a woman tells a man the problems, she simply using conversation as the activity, she isn't necessary asking for advice. However men often feel that they being asked to solve the problems - why talk about them otherwise? So, according to Tannen men often accuse women of complain without takeaction. Women, on another hand, say that men are self-centered, only wanting to discuss their lives and, specially, their accomplishments. This make sense when you understand that men use conversation to improve their status. Perhaps, an understanding of where we are coming from helps close the gender gap and allows men and women to communicate more effective.
