In many parts of Latin America the quinceañera celebration is an important right of passage for young women. Quince años means "fifteen years," and quinceañera refers to the girl celebrate the occasion. Traditionally this rite is marked the young womans entrance into womanhood and her eligible for marriage. And even though few 15 year olds today would consider themselves ready for marriage. It is still seen as a very important celebration. In fact, some quinceañera parties are elaborate and expensive as weddings. Many parents save for years to pay for gowns rented tuxedos photographers catered dinners bands flowers limousine and rental of a ballroom. In recent years, some people are become more and more critical of these extravagant parties which put very financial strain on a families budget. Therefore, the detractors are relatively few. Most Latin Americans values this custom and consider that an important part of their culture.
