A.

There are two major types of sleep disturbances that can be especially disturbing to children, and it is important to distinguish between them. These disturbances are nightmares and night terrors. Everyone experiences nightmares from time to time. They are frightening dreams that usually occur near the end of the sleep cycle. They often involved being chased or attacked in some way. In addition, it is common to have such a strong emotional reaction to a nightmare that you awaken with strong feelings of fear, anger, guilt, or sadness. When people awaken from a nightmare, they immediately know that they have been dreaming. Nightmares are often associated with traumatic life events, such as a death in the family. They are also more likely to occur during times of illness, especially high fever.

There are two major types of sleep disturbances that can be especially disturbing to children, and it is important to distinguish between them. These disturbances are nightmares and night terrors. Everyone experiences nightmares from time to time. They are the less serious of the two events. They typically take place near the end of the sleep cycle. They often involved being chased or attacked in some way. Even though it is possible to awaken from a nightmare with strong feelings such as fear, anger, or guilt, upon waking you immediately know that you have been dreaming. Night terrors can be distinguished from nightmares in several ways. First of all, they usually occur earlier in the sleep cycle, during the period of deepest sleep. They often involve being imprisoned or abandoned. Upon awakening from night terrors, people are often disoriented and confused.
