There are many different style of management and most people seem to agree that one of most important principles of management is to lead by example. Don't just tell your employees that you want them to do, show them by you do it. If you want your staff to commit and be motivated, don't take long lunch breaks and leave on five each afternoon. If you want them have a positively attitude make sure that you give them positive feedback. No one enjoys to hear criticism but it helps when you know that your successes have also noticed. If you want them to be "team players," be one yourself. Defend your employee and your department. Don't complain about them to other managers or attempt to use them as an excuse for your unsuccess. If you try to make your into an employee that you would value, you'll often find that them you supervise will follow suit.
