Managing Information Technology and E-Business

BATW Exercises

  1. One of the largest Internet retailers is Amazon.com. Amazon sells books, electronics, as well as other products that are often shipped by UPS or Federal Express. Assume that Amazon needs to open an additional warehouse to ship products quickly to people living in the Southeastern portion of the U.S. Amazon would like to locate in the state with the highest population in this region of the country. Use the U.S. Census information in the Business Around the World Map to locate the best state for Amazon's warehouse.
  2. The nature of the Internet has created tremendous opportunities for businesses to forge relationships with consumers and business customers, target markets more precisely, and even to reach previously inaccessible markets. The Internet also facilitates business transactions, allowing companies to network with manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, suppliers, and outsource firms to serve customers more efficiently. Using the Business Around the World Map go to the "US Business News and Analysis" site (Hint: You can assess this from any state selected from the map) and provide three examples of companies that are involved in innovative applications of the internet. Include where and how you found the examples.
