| Vernier Luxury Suites: Creating a Template Mike Carlson, the General Manager of Vernier Luxury Suites,
is extremely fond of the Tahoma font. He finds himself spending
a lot of time reformatting text to appear in the Tahoma font.
In this exercise, Mike creates a new template that
automatically applies his favorite font to several styles.
Assume the role of Mike and perform the steps that he
identifies. - Open the "wd10xtra01.doc" Word file and save it to your
personal storage location as "mike".
- Save this document as a template before proceeding:
CHOOSE: File, Save As SELECT:
Document Template (*.dot)
from the
Save As Type
drop-down list Call the template "mike.dot" (Note: Word will attempt to save the template to the
default template directory. If you are not able to use
this directory then use your personal storage
location.) - To apply the Heading 1 style to the heading "Heading 1"
CLICK: in the title "Heading 1"
SELECT: Heading 1 from the Style drop-down list on the
Formatting toolbar - To apply the Heading 2 style to the heading "Heading 2"
CLICK: in the title "Heading 2"
SELECT: Heading 2 from the Style drop-down list on the
Formatting toolbar - Using the same procedure described in the previous step,
apply a Heading 3 style to the heading "Heading 3".
- To modify the Normal style:
CLICK: Styles and Formatting button ( (0.0K) ) on the
Formatting toolbar to display the task pane RIGHT-CLICK: Normal style in the task pane CHOOSE: Modify from the right-click menu - To change the styles formatting:
CHOOSE: Tahoma from the Font drop-down list CLICK: OK button (
Note: Be sure that the box marked "Add to template" is
checked in.) -
Modify the Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3 styles to
use the Tahoma font as described in steps 5 and 6. Your
screen should now appear similar to figure 10.1.

Close the Styles and Formatting pane.
CLICK: Styles and Formatting button ( (0.0K) ) on the
Formatting toolbar.

Since Mike only wanted the styles for his template, he
deletes the actual text.
CHOOSE: Edit, Select All
PRESS: Delete key

Save the template and then close it.

Test the new template:
CHOOSE: File, New
CLICK: mike.dot under the New From Template heading in
the New Document task pane
(Note: if you had to save the template to your
personal storage location, simply open the template file
from there by choosing File, Open.) - TYPE: Your Name
PRESS: Enter key twice TYPE: Your Instructors Name PRESS: Enter key - Using the procedure outlined in step 3, apply the Heading
1 format to your name and the Heading 2 format to your
instructors name.
- Save the new document as "template test" in your personal
storage location and close Word.

Erica Kinsey is collaborating on a short company history.
She has been asked to make some minor changes to the current
company history. Instead of saving her changes as a new
document, she saves disk space and keeps her documents better
organized by saving her changes as a new version. Assume the
role of Erica and perform the steps that she identifies. - Open the "wd10xtra02.doc" Word file and save it to your
personal storage location as "TS Story".
- To modify the Heading 2 style:
CLICK: Styles and Formatting button ( (0.0K) ) on the
Formatting toolbar to display the task pane RIGHT-CLICK: Heading 2 style in the task pane CHOOSE: Modify from the right-click menu - To change the styles formatting:
CHOOSE: Ariel Black from the Font drop-down list CHOOSE: 16 from the Font Size drop-down list CLICK: OK button Close the Styles and Formatting task pane Your document should now appear similar to figure

- Save the changes as a new version:

Jan Dice, Attorney at Law, is compiling a series of
documents on campaign reform legislature into one document.
Assume the role of Jan and perform the steps she
identifies. - Download the following files to your personal storage
location:
wd10xtra03a.doc wd10xtra03b.doc wd10xtra03c.doc wd10xtra03d.doc - Start a new blank document and save it as "campaign
reform" to your personal storage location.
- Switch to Outline view and then insert the
wd10xtra03a.doc as a subdocument.
- Continue, adding the following documents as
subdocuments:
wd10xtra03b.doc wd10xtra03c.doc wd10xtra03d.doc - In Outline view change the display to include only the
first level of headings, if they are not already set to that
level.
- In Outline view, move the third subdocument so that it is
positioned last in the master document. Your screen should
now appear similar to Figure 10.3.
