Preparing Multi-Page Reports

Case Problems

Adam Abbott

An avid fan of Greek mythology, Adam decides to apply the skills he has learned in this chapter to enhance his Word file copy of Homer’s The Odyssey . Assume the role of Adam and perform the steps he identifies. You may want to reread the chapter opening before proceeding.

  1. Adam opens the "wd09xtra04.doc" Word file and saves it to his personal storage location as "The Odyssey". Adam inserts a blank page between the title page and the start of Book 1 and then inserts a table of contents on the blank page. In the process, he applies the Classic format. The table of contents appears in Figure 9.3.
  2. Figure 9.3

He saves the document as "The Odyssey (revision 1)" and leaves it open for the next exercise.

  3. Adam then creates an index of his favorite characters and inserts it at the end of the document. He includes the following entries: Agamemnon, Antinous, Cyclops, Euryclea, Menelaus, Penelope, Phemius, and Telemachus. He formats the index in the Classic style. The index appears in figure 9.4.

He saves the revised document as "The Odyssey (revision 2)" and leaves it open for the next exercise.

  5. Adam decides that the document would look better if he included page breaks before each book. After inserting the page breaks, he updates the table of contents and changes the format to Distinctive. He also updates the index, but keeps the Classic style. He saves the document as "The Odyssey (revision 3)". He then closes Word and heads to the union for some coffee.
