| Vernier Luxury Suites: Navigating a Document In this exercise, assume the role of facilities manager
Charles as he navigates a document using some of the techniques
learned in chapter 9. - Open the wd09xtra01.doc Word file and save it to your
personal storage location as "Recycling". The document should
appear similar to figure 9.1.

- Now practice browsing through the document using the
Select Browse Object button (
 (0.0K) ). CLICK: Select Browse Object button ( (0.0K) ) - To browse through the documents headings:
CLICK: Browse by Heading button ( (0.0K) ) in the
displayed button menu. - Use the Next (
 (0.0K) ) and Previous ( (0.0K) ) buttons on
the vertical scroll bar to browse forward and backward
through the headings. - In this step, you display a document map for the
document.
CLICK: Document Map button ( (1.0K) ) on the Standard
toolbar - Click on the headings displayed in the Document Map to
browse directly to that section.
- To close the Document Map pane:
CLICK: Document Map button ( (1.0K) ) on the Standard
toolbar - Save and then close the "Recycling" document.

References
Karen Bailey, the marketing director for Temporary
Solutions, has created a press release. This press release, in
addition to being its own document, will also become part of a
larger press kit and might change format. Because of this,
Karen wants to include a cross reference to her chart so that
the page number will not have to be updated if the chart is
moved. Assume the role of Karen and perform the steps that she
identifies. - Open the "wd09xtra02.doc" Word file and save it as "Press
Release" in your personal storage location.
- Position the insertion point so that it is at the end of
the last line of text ("
can offer more consistent
employment because of its size.")
- Insert a footnote.
CHOOSE: Insert, Reference, Footnote CLICK: Insert button to accept the default settings TYPE: Benefits package dependent on full or part-time
status of employee. - Position the insertion point so that it is directly after
the text "classroom management skills" and insert another
footnote that says "Classroom management skills training
provided by Special Educational Solutions." (Notice that the
footnotes were renumbered.)
The footnotes should now appear similar to figure

- Add a bookmark to the chart.
CLICK: the chart object to select it CHOOSE: Insert, Bookmark - In the Insert Bookmark dialog box, name the bookmark
"backwater"
TYPE: backwater CLICK: OK button - Add a cross reference to the chart.
Position the insertion point at the end of the second
paragraph (after the text "since 1997"). TYPE: See chart on page x. DOUBLE-CLICK: the "x" you just typed to select it - CHOOSE: Insert, Reference, Cross-Reference

Assume the role of Jan as she creates an index for her copy
of the U.S. Constitution. - Open the "wd09xtra03.doc" Word file and save it to your
personal storage location as "Constitution".
- In this step, you mark index entries. Keep the following
in mind as you proceed:
- Mark all entries shown in blue. Be sure to use the
"mark all" button.
- Mark the two entries shown in orange as individual
sub-headings below the "Congress" entry
- Position the insertion point at the end of the document
and then insert a page break.
- With the insertion point positioned at the end of the
document, generate the index using the Modern format.
- Since parts of the document are displaying in blue and
orange, select all the text in the document and then apply
black.
- Save, print, and then close the revised document.
