Exercise 1

  1. Start Access and examine an existing database.
    1. Open the Recipe database on your student files folder.
    2. Open the recipes table in design view and notice the filed names.
    3. Notice the different data types for each field
    4. Notice the field size property for the different fields.
    5. Notice how the general properties change for each field
  2. Modify a field of type text.
    1. Change the field size to a larger number.
      1. Notice Access converts it nicely.
    2. Change the filed size to a smaller number.
      1. Notice Access warns about possible loss of data.

Exercise 2

  1. Click the relationships icon on the toolbar.
    1. Notice the relationships between fields
    2. Double click a relationship and notice if it is one-to-many or one-to-one
  2. Open the tables for those relationships in design view.
    1. Notice the field types for each relationship.
