Autocratic Government
Web LinksThe Carter Center
This nonprofit, nonpartisan policy institute was founded by former President Carter in 1982. The Center
is dedicated to fighting disease, hunger, poverty, conflict, and
oppression. You may have heard about Carter's diplomatic feats in
recent years; here you can read about what his policy institute is
trying to do in troubled countries around the world. Especially when
considering questions of autocratic rule and human rights violations,
it is important to look at a group like this that seems to be making a
real difference. http://www.emory.edu/CARTER_CENTER/homepage.htm Amnesty International
A globally famous organization working to protect human rights
worldwide. This
Web-site is a good introduction to Web resources for human rights
issues. Make sure you take note of the opportunity to make a personal
commitment to the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" by adding
your name to the petition! http://www.amnesty.org/ Human Rights Web
This site offers connections to the full
range of human rights organizations, activists, and researchers. http://www.hrweb.org/resource.html Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs: Information Resources,
maintained by Columbia University Library
This site is a selective guide to resources (many on the Web, most available in major research
libraries) for conducting research on international human rights
issues. If you need any suggestions for high quality resources to
consult for research (or are just curious) then make sure you jot down
some of these citations before heading out to the library. http://www.cc.columbia.edu/cu/libraries/indiv/lehman/guides/human.html Strategic Intelligence, maintained by Loyola College
Everything you would ever want to know about the intelligence
community, both in the U.S. and other countries as well, is at this
site. Actually, it seems some sites are closed without special
authorization. There is information on military intelligence,
economic intelligence, different organizations, key documents, current
issues, debates, etc. These are issues with which you should be
familiar when considering the military rule present in certain
countries around the world. http://www.loyola.edu/dept/politics/intel.html
