Knowledge in Action

1

Visit one of your school’s student computer labs. Write up a brief summary of the types of output hardware devices available to students. Use the list of output hardware devices in your textbook to make sure you’ve looked for every possible such device in the lab. Are some of the devices only available to students taking certain courses?
2

Computers users generally have definite preferences when it comes to pointing devices. Try to locate three computers, each with a different variant on the common mouse, i.e., trackball, pointing stick, and touchpad. Use each computer to browse the Web for at least half an hour. Observe what you like and dislike about each pointing device. When you are finished, think about your experience with these three alternatives to the mouse. Which did you like best? How does that device compare to the mouse in your opinion?
