Mark N. Cohen's book, Culture of Intolerance: Chauvinism, Class, and Racism in the United States: was awarded the Bruno Brand Tolerance Book Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Quote: "The award is presented for a non-fiction work on the subject of tolerance and is part of the Center's efforts to recognize achievements by individuals whose work promotes tolerance. The award is made possible through the generosity of Sandra Brand in memory of her only child, Bruno, who perished in the Holocaust."

New Tribal Ventures/The Ishmael Community

In 1991, Ishmael, a "novel" of anthropological philosophy by Daniel Quinn, was awarded the Turner Tomorrow Fellowship. This award of $500,000 was given by Ted Turner, Founder of CNN and Turner Network Television and Time Magazine's 1991 Man of the Year, for a book offering creative solutions to global problems. Ishmael is an excellent starting place for any undergraduate interested in global perspectives on multiculturalism and tolerance. This website provides an entry into the world of Ishmael and Quinn's other writings, and the global Internet community that has developed because of Quinn's work.
