This is followed by a presentation of the biological approaches to the treatment of psychological disorders. Drug therapy has made psychotic patients calmer, alleviated depression, and calmed anxiety. Also, the controversy surrounding electroconvulsive therapy and psychosurgery, controversial treatments of last resort, is presented. Finally, a discussion presents the issues that the community health movement now must cope with in providing care for deinstitutionalized patients.
