Applied Anthropology

Learning Objectives

This chapter discusses the role of applied anthropology. It discusses the ways in which it is related to and separate from academic anthropology. It also discusses in depth several fields of applied anthropology such as urban anthropology, medical anthropology, and forensic anthropology.

You need to understand the relationship between urban an rural communities.

You should know what medical anthropology is. In particular, you should know the different kinds of disease theories and how they differ. You also need to be able to distinguish between an illness and a disease.

You need to know what anthropology has to offer business.

You should be familiar with the different kinds of careers in anthropology.
