What's New

What's New in the Sixth Edition
Redesigned pedagogy, new assignment material, and a new design reinforce important managerial accounting concepts.

Streamlining
In order to streamline this edition, chapters 16 and 17 were shortened and combined into the new chapter 16. The concept of present value has been moved to an appendix for those students who need this review.

Topic Tackler
This tutorial offers a virtual helping hand in understanding the most challenging topics in the managerial accounting course. Through a step-by-step sequence of video clips, PowerPoint slides, interactive practice exercises, and self tests, Topic Tackler offers help on two key topics for each chapter. These topics are indicated by a logo in the text.

Focus on Ethics
Focus on Ethics is included in most chapters. This feature raises hard-hitting issues and asks tough questions that remind us of the importance of ethical management. Some of these are based on real-world issues reported in the press; others are fictional but based on well-established anecdotal evidence.

Current Issues in Managerial Accounting and Managerial Accounting Practice
These popular features have been revised and updated this edition and reflect the latest practices and issues in managerial accounting.

End-of-Chapter Material
Hilton has made significant changes to the end-of-chapter material. Most of the exercises, problems, and cases contain different data from that found in the fifth edition.

Content
Chapters 1 and 10: Coverage of the balanced scorecard is expanded.
Chapter 3: Introduction to Activity-Based Costing (ABC) is moved to the appendix and a discussion of supply-chain management added.
Chapter 6: Activity-based management (ABM) discussion is shortened and consolidated in Chapter 6.
Appendix 7: Microsoft Excel is now used to do linear regression analysis and added to the appendix.
Chapter 12: Completely new coverage of environmental cost management and six sigma.
