Feature Summary

Features of Environmental Geology 7/ed.

The emphasis of this introductory textbook is on the physical constraints imposed on human activities by the geologic processes that have shaped and are still shaping our natural environment, and the many ways in which human activities, in turn, affect that geologic environment. It presents the reader with a broad overview of environmental geology, with occasional introductions to related considerations outside of geology to expand other ramifications of the subjects discussed.

Environmental Geology, 7/e looks at how the earth developed, past and present interactions between people and geology, and where environmental conditions may be moving in the future as a result of those interactions.

Each chapter opens with an introduction that sets the stage for the material to follow.

Within each chapter, important terms and concepts are identified by boldface type, and these terms are collected as "Terms to Remember" at the end of the chapter for quick review.

Most chapters include actual case histories or specific examples.

Each chapter concludes with review questions and exercises, which allow students to test their comprehension and to apply their knowledge, and also suggested readings and pertinent references.

Boxed readings involve a situation, problem, or application related to environmental geology that might be encountered in everyday life.

"NetNotes" at the end of every chapter provide students with pertinent Internet sites for further exploration and research.
