Google Earth

TAKE A VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP WITH GOOGLE EARTH AND THE Environmental Geology 7E ARIS SITE!

Engage students in your course using the new Google Earth worksheets available with Environmental Geology 7e. These exercises are located on the instructor’s side of this ARIS site. They can be found in the Self Study section under the title Instructor Resources.

Chances are that your students already know how to use the free Google Earth application, and now they can use it to scour the earth in search of regional landmarks. Google Earth is a free, online application that uses satellite imagery to allow the user to zoom across the globe in a realistic, virtual environment.

Environmental Geology 7e contains 19 different worksheets for students to complete using Google Earth. Instructors can distribute these to students through e-mail or printing them out. Students are required to input geographical coordinates into the Google Earth search engine, which takes them to a particular region where they can explore the surroundings to discover local geology in realistic settings.

The following are just some of the topics included in these worksheets:
Coastal Geology
Deserts
Erosion and Sedimentary Rock
Glaciers and Glaciation
Mining and Natural Resources
Planetary Geology
Streams and Floods
Volcanoes
