What's New

  • Qualitative Research. The text has been reorganized to include two parts focused on qualitative research for a total of 5 chapters (Part V: Introduction to Qualitative Research and Part VI: Qualitative Methodologies). A discussion of qualitative methods is also integrated throughout the text as appropriate.
  • Action Research. Doing Research in Schools has been expanded into a new chapter entitled Action Research (Ch. 23). This chapter provides an introduction to Action Research and is full of "real life" examples of how action research questions are developed.
  • Research Reports. New annotated research reports have been added to accompany the new qualitative methods chapters.
  • Features. Two new features have been added: Controversies in Research (examines controversial topics in research) and Research Tips (provides guidelines and tips for doing research). The popular More About Research feature has been expanded.
  • Interactive and Applied Learning. This feature located at the start of each chapter lists the student resources and activities available on the Online Learning Center, Interactive CD-Rom or Workbook for that chapter. A feature at the end of the chapter lists chapter review resources located on the Online Learning Center or Interactive CD-Rom.
  • Student Supplements. Packaged for free with each copy of the text are an Interactive Student CD-Rom (with quizzes, audio clips explaining important concepts, interactive activities, a statistics program, a statistics primer, electronic forms and additional resources) and a Student Workbook (with practice activities designed to help student understanding of difficult concepts and full-sized versions of the Problem Sheets). In addition, an Online Learning Center (with an online student study guide) is available.
