Stephen J. Schmidt is an associate professor of economics at Union College, where he has been teaching since 1994. He received his bachelor's degree in 1989 and his Ph.D. in 1995, both from Stanford University. His research interests are in industrial organization, particularly transportation, and public finance, and his articles have appeared in publications including American Economic Review, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Public Finance Review, and Journal of Transport Economics and Policy. Outside economics, he spends time with his wife Alexandra and his children Gideon, Josiah, and Rachel, and avidly reads 19th century military history.
