Look at the continuum at the top of page 363. Without reading the accompanying text, use what you have learned so far to brainstorm reasons why each genre is placed where it is on the continuum in relation to the others.

Now read the paragraph that explains the continuum and compare your reasons to the statements in the paragraph. What is the variable shared by the different genres that determines their position on the continuum?

Task 3. Complete. Based on the information from Tasks 1 and 2, fill in the continuum with the fundamental differences between the four genres.
