Task 1. Summarize.

1.			Read the paragraph on page 19 of the text and summarize the information it provides. What does it tell you about the process of textual analysis?

NOTE: With all of the information you have gathered so far, you are prepared to learn how to analyze a narrative. The actual methods of critical analysis used in your class will depend on your instructor; your responsibility as a student is to know the components of a narrative and the relevant terminology so that you will be able to participate meaningfully in your study group and in class discussions.

3.			What are the formats in which a narrative can be written?
4.			What are the components of a narrative? Identify and define them.
5.			Who are the characters? What are their functions?
6.			What are the various points of view a narrator can represent?
7.			Who are the potential audiences of a narrative? Why is this information important?
8.			What are the elements of la historia? of el discurso? el tema?
9.			How would you explain to someone the process of textual analysis?

10.			Individually or with your study group, do the Práctica section on pages 19–24 of the text. Remember to indicate/discuss how you arrive at your answers, and not just the answers themselves.
