This chapter provides an overview of the different pedagogical approaches to multicultural education. In addition, ethnocentric models of education are examined. This chapter also provides an overview of the different models of bilingual education and English as a Second Language programs. The importance of protecting of language rights is examined.

The learner will be able to identify and explain the different pedagogical approaches used in multicultural education.
The learner will be able to define ethnocentric education and to explain the different models and purposes of ethnocentric education.
The learner will be able to describe and discuss the different models of bilingual education, and contrast them with English as a Second Language programs.
