As you may have guessed, there are no right or wrong answers to the essay questions in this practice test. That does not mean, however, that all essays are equally good. To get maximum learning benefit from the essay questions, do the following:

  • Review each essay a day or two after you wrote it, noting any necessary corrections and any additional support for your points that you can think of.
  • Review the section in your textbook that pertains to the topic of each essay. Annotate your essay with any corrections or additional support for your points that you find in the text.
  • Spend a few minutes researching the topic of each essay on the Internet. Annotate your essay further with any additional (reliable) information you find.
  • Finally, reread each essay with the annotations you have added.

Why did you enroll in this introductory psychology course, and what do you hope to learn from it? Note: If you are taking introductory psychology merely to fulfill a requirement, you might as well make the best of it. There is no sense fulfilling a requirement and doing poorly in the course. Think of some good reasons for taking introductory psychology, even if you personally don't buy into them 100%, and outline some things one might hope to gain from the course.

If we believe that behavior is affected by environmental factors, does that mean that people don't have personal control over their behavior? Explain your answer and cite some specifics from your own experience to support your position.

Although both biological and environmental factors are likely to affect behavior, would one set of factors be more important than the other? Why or why not? If so, which would be the more important factor?
