As you may have guessed, there are no right or wrong answers to the essay questions in this practice test. That does not mean, however, that all essays are equally good. To get maximum learning benefit from the essay questions, do the following:

  • Review each essay a day or two after you wrote it, noting any necessary corrections and any additional support for your points that you can think of.
  • Review the section in your textbook that pertains to the topic of each essay. Annotate your essay with any corrections or additional support for your points that you find in the text.
  • Spend a few minutes researching the topic of each essay on the Internet. Annotate your essay further with any additional (reliable) information you find.
  • Finally, reread each essay with the annotations you have added.

1

Describe the behavioral tendencies of two people you know who are closely related to each other. (One of the people may be you, if you wish.) Do these two people have any striking behavioral similarities? Any striking behavioral differences? Now choose two people who are not related to each other and describe their behavioral tendencies. What, if anything, do your observations of their behavioral tendencies suggest about genetic influences on behavior?
2

Have you or anyone you know undergone a medical imaging procedure such as an EEG, CT scan, or MRI? (If not, use your need to gather information on this topic as a way to meet new people.) What symptoms or other indications did the patient present that made the imaging procedure appropriate? What was the experience of having the procedure like for the patient? How might the patient's diagnosis and course of treatment have been different if medical imaging did not exist?
3

If you knew that you or your spouse carried a genetically linked disease, how might that knowledge influence your decisions about having children? (If you are already sure, regardless of any hereditary conditions, that you do not intend to have any children, then write this essay about a hypothetical couple who may be considering starting a family.)
