As you may have guessed, there are no right or wrong answers to the essay questions in this practice test. That does not mean, however, that all essays are equally good. To get maximum learning benefit from the essay questions, do the following:

  • Review each essay a day or two after you wrote it, noting any necessary corrections and any additional support for your points that you can think of.
  • Review the section in your textbook that pertains to the topic of each essay. Annotate your essay with any corrections or additional support for your points that you find in the text.
  • Spend a few minutes researching the topic of each essay on the Internet. Annotate your essay further with any additional (reliable) information you find.
  • Finally, reread each essay with the annotations you have added.

Considering what you have learned in this chapter about techniques for memorization, and the fact that to do well in this course you need to memorize a significant amount of information, explain why doing the exercises in this study guide is a better use of your time than reading your textbook over and over.
2

Parents, teachers, and other concerned adults want to be aware of whether children are being neglected or abused when in the care of others. In Chapter 7 of your text you read about studies in which children gave false reports of events. Assuming an adult wants a child to give as truthful an account as possible of what took place in the adult's absence, how do you think the adult should question and listen to the child?
3

Describe a significant event, person, or place that you remember clearly. The memory may be from your childhood or from a more recent time. After you have written your description, seek out someone who would be in a position to corroborate this recollection. Without telling them anything about the way you remember it, ask them to describe their memory of the same event, person, or place. How do your memories compare?
