Activity 1

Practice your internet research skills by trying to find three or four web pages with information on gerunds. Start here at Yahoo.com, and write the word "gerund" in the search window, then press enter. Visit the various website Yahoo! recommends, and evaluate them. List the best sites you find. Why were these the best sites? What makes their information seem reliable?

Activity 2

Many writing teachers say that active verbs are more effective than passive ones. Do you agree? Go to one of the following web pages and read an article:

NYTIMES.com

Internet Movie Database

People Magazine

Rewrite some of the sentences you read in the passive voice. Do they seem less effective? Did you notice if the author of your article used mostly the active or passive voice?
