A Web site that focuses on the urban center of Pompeii. The forum at any Roman town was the urban center housing the town's main religious, civic, and commercial institutions. Because of the volcanic eruption of 79 BCE, Pompeii offers more insight into daily life under the Roman Republic than any other archeological site. (
