Exercise 1

Visit the Human Rights Campaign Fund site (http://www.hrc.org/worknet/publications/state_workplace/2001/exec_summary.asp). Read about the "State of the Workplace for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Americans 2001" and then answer the following questions:

  1. What are the special challenges faced by lesbian, gay, bi, and trans people in their places of employment?
  2. What inroads have been made in guaranteeing LGBT people work-place equality?
  3. How many employers now offer domestic partnership benefits to same-sex couples?

Exercise 2

Go to the Affirmative Action section of the National Organization for Women Website (http://www.now.org/issues/affirm/). After reviewing the links on this site, answer the following questions:

  1. What are the myths and facts about Affirmative Action?
  2. What are its strengths and limitations?
  3. Are you for or against Affirmative Action as a strategy by which to address the historical legacy of inequalities in employment and education? Why?
