The following summarizes what a student should have learned from reading each chapter of A History of Western Art.

It is assumed that students can identify all works by title, artist (if known), culture (or nationality) and time period, medium, and style. It is also assumed that students will look up and be able to define the bolded glossary terms. In addition, further examples of what a student should be familiar with are listed below.

After reading chapter 20, you should be able to:

  4. describe the function of the Parisian salon.
  5. describe the events leading to the French Revolution.
  6. compare French and English Rococo.

  8. discuss the development of Rococo architecture in Germany.
  9. contrast Rococo portraiture with Baroque portraiture.
  10. discuss the architectural revivals of the 18th century.
  11. compare Rococo with Bourgeois Realism
  12. describe the migration of Rococo to the United States.
