The Sami of Far Northern Europe
This site discusses the culture and importance of reindeer herding in contemporary Sami. Review several of the articles relating to reindeer herding, and compare the structure of Sami herding practices with that of the contemporary Mongolians described Chapter 8 of Tapestry of Culture. Pay close attention in both cases to the relationship of the herders to the state governments within which they reside, and with neighboring groups who practice different production systems.
