Aggregate  Calculations that cumulate information about groups of data.
Column break  A line that appears in a text import step to indicate the beginning of a field.
Comma-separated values  Values separated from one another by commas.
CSV  See comma-separated values.
Database  A collection of information organized so that a computer program can select requested information from it quickly.
Database driver  Special software that translates Excel information requests into database commands.
Database management system  A program that takes in user requests and combs through a database to deliver requested information, update information, or delete information.
Database table  A two-dimensional arrangement of rows and columns and holds data.
DBMS  See database management system.
Delimiter  A character or group of characters that separates two pieces of data.
Field  An individual unit of data, either fixed length or separated from others by a delimiter.
Filter  Selection criteria applied to merge operation to restrict the source data records chosen to those that satisfy the criteria.
Fixed-width  Data arranged into specific locations or starting positions.
Foreign key  A table column that identifies records in a different table.
Join  An operation that matches records in two tables based on a field that each one has in common, such as a customer number or an inventory number.
Primary key  A table column whose values are unique for each record in a table.
Query  Combines related information from one or more database tables, based on your search and sort criteria, and returns a table as a result.
Record  A collection of related information about one object stored in a database table.
Rich Text Format  A standard for specifying formatting documents in which the document contains text and special commands holding formatting information.
Selection criteria  Specifying values to limit the records retrieved from a table.
SQL  An abbreviation for structured query language, it is a standard language for requesting information from a database.
Text data  Data that consists only of characters (letters, digits, and special characters) that you can type on a keyboard-devoid of any special formatting.
Text Import Wizard  A three-step process to help convert text-format data into Excel format.
Uniform Resource Locator  The global address of a document or other resource on the Web.
