Chapter 2-Background and Expectations of the Audience
Visit the Internet Broadway database at http://www.ibdb.com/. In the search engine, enter the name of a popular play or musical to find out its Broadway production history. Also take a look at the shows currently running on Broadway. How many are musicals? How many are plays?
Go to http://www.google.com and type in the words "regional theater". After looking over the list of hits, select the websites of three regional theaters and find out the following information: where they are located, what shows they are performing this season, who is the artistic director, and how long they have been in existence.
Visit the website of a college or university theater department (suggestion: http://www.the.ohio-state.edu). What kind of information is provided? Is it geared toward the general public or prospective students? What shows is that department performing this season?
