We have discovered an error in the manufacturing of the first CD of the four CD set that prevents the free listening software that accompanies the new edition of Roger Kamien's MUSIC: An Appreciation.from operating correctly with this CD. We have developed a patch that allows the software to work correctly with this CD.

Instructions to the Patch for ChartPlayer for the 4-CD Set to Accompany Music: An Appreciation

For Windows

1. Be sure to have installed the Kamien Chartplayer software included on the CD which came with your book.
2. Click on the download link "Patch for Windows (.exe)."
3. File Download: Run this program from its current location. (if your servers block downloading .exe's please download the patch for windows (.zip) version and besure to use a zip program, like winzip or PKzip.)
4. Security Warning: Authenticode Signature not found. Click OK.
5. Click Next.
6. Click Next.
7. Click Close.
8. Run ChartPlayer for Kamien 4-CD Set. The software should operate normally and recognize CD I.

For Mac

1. Be sure to have installed the Kamien Chartplayer software included on the CD which came with your book.
2. Click on the download link "Patch for Macintosh".
3. The file will download and unstuff, resulting in a file on your desktop called "kamienpatchmac". If the file is called "kamienpatchmac.hqx", you will need to download and install the free Stuffit Expander from Aladdin Systems. If this is the case, you will need to drag the "kamienpatchmac.hqx" onto the Stuffit Expander icon on the desktop after the installation.
4. Double click the "kamienpatchmac" icon. Click Continue on the opening screen.
5. If you have not moved the program since installing, you can simply click Install. If you have moved the program, click the Select Folder button. Locate the ChartPlayer for Kamien 4-CD folder and select it in the Open Dialog window. Click Select. Click Install.
6. Click Quit.

Kamien Win (Adjusted to work with Windows 2000) (2544.0K)

1. Turn off CD Auto-insert Notification.

   • For Windows 98
     • If you do not do this, do not expect the software to respond properly. Figuratively speaking, your computer and ChartPlayer will fight for contol of the CD. The results are unpredictable.
     • Choose Control Panels from the Start Menu/Settings option.
     • Choose System. Choose CD-ROM. Choose your CD-ROM.
     • Choose Settings. Deselect "Auto-insert notification."
     • Close all windows.
     • Restart your computer.
   • For Windows XP:
     • Open My Computer.
     • Highlight the CD-ROM Icon.
     • Right click and go into Properties.
     • Select Auto Play.
     • In drop down box, select Music CD
     • Mark Box Action to Perform Highlight Take No Action
     • Click Ok 
2. Download the application.
   • Note the name of the downloaded file.
3. Double-click the file.
   • To find this file, you must know where your browser stores its downloaded files. If you don't know, you may search for this file using the Start/Find/Files or Folders feature of the Windows OS.
   • Follow the instructions. The ChartPlayer software will be installed on your hard drive in the Program Files directory and shortcuts will be created on your desktop and the Start menu.
