Corelli was a prominent Italian violinist and composer of string music. He instructed some of the most eminent musicians of his day and laid the foundations for
the modern violin technique. Unique among Italian composers of his time, he wrote only instrumental music.
His work, Trio Sonata in An Minor, is written for two violins and basso continuo. The violins play the two upper lines in the same high register. The basso
continuo is for organ or cello. The sonata consists of four short movements: - Fast
