Johannes Brahms owed his introduction to the world as a composer to Clara and Robert Schumann. Robert Schumann declared him a musical messiah and Clara Schumann became a prominent performer of his works. After failing to receive a post at the Hamburg Philharmonic he spent the last 35 years of his life in Vienna where he introduced many forgotten masterpieces from Bach, Handel and Mozart to the public in a Viennese music society where he conducted.
