Package Option Information

The following packages are available with Murphy's An Introduction to Chemical Processes: Principles, Analysis, Synthesis.

  • Engineering Equation Solver (EES). The basic function provided by EES is the numerical solution of a set of algebraic equations. EES can also be used to solve differential and integral equations, do optimization, provide uncertainty analyses and linear and non-linear regression, and generate publication-quality plots. There are two major differences between EES and other equation-solving programs. First, EES allows equations to be entered in any order with unknown variables placed anywhere in the equations; EES automatically reorders the equations for efficient solution. Second, EES provides many built-in mathematical and thermophysical property functions useful for engineering calculations. For example, the steam tables are implemented such that any thermodynamic property can be obtained from a built-in function call in terms of any two other properties. Similar data are provided for many other substances including R134a, R22, ammonia, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and air. See the following web sites for more information: www.fchart.com and www.mhhe.com/engcs/mech/ees/.
Order ISBN 9780073428024 or 0073428027 to receive the text with the Limited Academic Version of EES on CD-ROM. Departments at educational institutions that adopt the text book with the Limited Academic Version CD will also have access to the full Academic version of EES. Contact your sales representative for a password to download it to your school computer lab or a similar location. Students in the class may then access and copy the full Academic version.
  • ChemSkill Builder (available online). ChemSkill Builder is a highly regarded tutorial and electronic homework program that generates more than 1500 algorithmically-generated questions for students for every topic in the general chemistry course, with tutorial feedback. The questions are presented in a randomized fashion with a constant mix of variables so that no two students will receive the same questions. The application provides feedback for students when incorrect answers are entered, and the answers can be submitted online to an instructor for grading. Order ISBN 9780073424095 or 0073424099 to receive the Murphy text with access to ChemSkill Builder. http://www.chemskillbuilder.com.
