The author has revised his successful text and added several improvements for
the Seventh Edition.
Streamlined Text: Steve Slavin has streamlined the text
of the 7th Edition, cutting about 100 pages while retaining all its key features.
The result is that book is not only a smoother read, but is more relevant
to today's college students.
Full Updates Throughout the Text: Over the last three years,
our economic outlook has changed radically, and the 7th Edition of Slavin
addresses such major new questions confronting us as
How have 9/11, the 2001 recession, the stock market collapse, and the
wars in Afghanistan and Iraq affected our economy?
Was the "new economy" all that new, or just a spurt of old
fashioned economic growth?
How are the huge tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 affecting our economy?
Are the large and growing budget and trade deficits here to stay?
Why didn't large corporations develop in Islamic Middle Eastern
countries the way they did in the West?
How well has welfare reform worked?
Will selling emissions rights help curb pollution?
How widespread is corporate misconduct?
Micro Reorganized: The micro material has been thoroughly
reorganized. Because much of the material in Chapters 20 (Cost) and 21 (Perfect
Competition) overlapped, the author combined the chapters. In addition, many
of the graphs in Chapter 23 (Oligopoly) were cut, and the derivation of the
shut-down and break-even points in the text of Chapter 20 were placed in an
advanced work box. Each paragraph and each problem was held to the same high
standard: Is this material comprehendible to most college students? The result
is that the micro portion of this book is even more accessible to students,
and they will learn and retain more of the material.
