The Debate Over Modern Human Origins

Overview

This is currently the most contentious, and certainly the most confusing issue in bioanthropology. Using the data given in the last chapter, the two major viewpoints on modern human origins are described and then evaluated by looking at evidence from the fossil record, from genetics, and from evolutionary theory. An alternative model is then presented, one I think could quite likely settle the argument. The Contemporary Issues feature takes up the connection between the major models and human racial diversity. I indicate what the fuss is all about—and how, in fact, there is no real issue.
