Preparing for the PRAXISTM Special Education: Knowledge-Based Core Principles Exam

The following resources are designed to help you use Exceptional Students by Ronald Taylor, Lydia Smiley and Stephen Richards to prepare for the PRAXISTM Special Education: Knowledge-Based Core Principles exam. While the practice quizzes test you on content that may be covered in the exam, they should not be considered an exhaustive study guide. It is important to know that the content of the exam changes from time to time and the sample tests included here may or may not include content that will be on the actual PRAXISTM exam taken. These quizzes tests only material covered in Exceptional Students.

The study materials here are not the only ones that you will need. To help you prepare for the PRAXISTM Special Education: Knowledge-Based Core Principles exam, we recommend that you visit the ETS Web site at www.ets.org/praxis for a full description of the exam, a listing of content covered, sample questions, and information about study resources available.

To help you prepare for the PRAXISTM Special Education: Knowledge-Based Core Principles exam:

  1. View and utilize the Exceptional Students/PRAXISTM Topic Matrix MATRIX (106.0K) shows where to review in Exceptional Students content covered in the PRAXISTM Special Education: Knowledge-Based Core Principles exam.
  2. Take practice Multiple-Choice Test (20 questions) based on the PRAXISTM Understanding Exceptionalities topics QUIZ 1 (44.0K) .
  3. Take practice Multiple-Choice Test (15 questions) based on the PRAXISTM Legal and Societal Issues topics QUIZ 2 (41.0K) .
  4. Take practice Multiple-Choice Test (40 questions) based on the PRAXISTM Delivery of Services to Students with Disabilities topics QUIZ 3 (71.0K) .
Test-taking Tips

Many students have problems on standardized exams because they do not take the time to read carefully. Read each item and its possible answers completely. Take several practice exams prior to taking the actual PRAXISTM exam so that you are familiar with each PRAXIS topic and question-and-answer format. Also, be aware that beginning to study well in advance of the PRAXISTM exam is more likely to result in success than would be "last minute" preparation and "cramming."
