Chapter 17: Promoting More Efficient Markets

An excellent website with links to many issues on antitrust is www.antitrust.org. The homepage for the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, at www.usdoj.gov/atr/overview.html, contains excellent source material on antitrust issues.

There are many websites with a good discussion of the Microsoft case, including a comprehensive one run by Microsoft at www.microsoft.com/presspass/trial. You can also keep up to date by looking for recent articles from The Economist at www.economist.com. The site at www.stolaf.edu/people/becker/antitrust/index.htm contains summaries of many important antitrust cases.

Innovative studies of the economics of regulation are undertaken by the AEI-Brookings Joint Center on Regulatory Studies at www.aei.brookings.org. See Kenneth J. Arrow et al., Benefit-Cost Analysis in Environmental, Health, and Safety Regulation (1996) at that site for a review of the major issues involved in cost-benefit analysis and for a Supreme Court brief filed in 2000 by 40 economists arguing for increased use of cost-benefit analysis in environmental regulation.
