About the Author



Susan J. Ferguson (Ph.D., University of Massachusetts, Amherst) is Associate Professor of Sociology at Grinnell College. In addition to the family course, she teaches introductory sociology and courses on women and work, medical sociology, and research methods. Her research interests include the never married and women’s health issues. She is editor of Mapping the Social Landscape: Readings in Sociology, Fourth Edition, (McGraw-Hill, 2005), co-editor of Breast Cancer: Society Shapes an Epidemic (Palgrave, 2000), and editor of Shifting the Center: Understanding Contemporary Families (McGraw-Hill, 2001).
