Buttons  "Hot spots" that are clicked to initiate an action.
HyperCard  An authoring tool that lets the user organize information and retrieve on-screen cards that contain text, graphics, sound, and animation.
Hypermedia  A system nearly synonymous with hypertext (however, it emphasizes the nontextual components of hypertext) that uses the computer to input, manipulate, and output graphics, sound, text, and video in the presentation of ideas and information.
Hypertext  Nonsequential associations of images, sound, text, and actions through which the user can browse, regardless of the order. An example of hypertext is a computer glossary from which a user can select a word and retrieve its definition.
Morphing  A special effect that changes one image into another image.
MP3  Moving Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) audio format that produces CD quality audio using a 12:1 compression rate.
Multimedia  A subset of hypermedia that combines graphics, sound, animation, and video.
QuickTime  Apple designed this program so that small movies could be shown on the computer screen.
QuickTime VR  An extension of QuickTime that lets the user view on-screen movies in 3-D space.
Virtual reality  A computer-generated world in which a person is able to manipulate the environment. The user generally wears a head-mounted device and special sensor gloves.
Warping  A process similar to morphing, involving the altering and manipulation of a single image.
