Exercise 1

Title IX has created controversy in collegiate athletics. Log onto the Feminist Majority Foundation Online Web site (http://www.feminist.org) and select “Women & Girls in Sports”; then select “What is Title IX?” After reading this material, answer the following questions:

  1. What was the original purpose of Title IX?


  2. How effective do the authors feel the program has been? Briefly explain the challenges and controversies the authors cite in terms of its implementation.

Exercise 2

Visit The Men’s Center Web site (http://www.themenscenter.com). On the left, click on “MENSIGHT Magazine”; then “Library.” Select the article entitled “What Women and Men Really Want.” Read the article and answer the following questions:

  1. What common themes emerge from the list of conflicts that arise as a result of the rapidly changing social contract between men and women? How could at least some of these conflicts be resolved? Be specific.


  2. How were the authors able to initiate conversation between men and women regarding these frustrations? What did the participants in the conversation learn?
