Answering these questions enables you to relate material from the text to your own personal experiences.
  1. Prepare a screenplay (film or TV) for the portion of Milton’s Paradise Lost that appears in the textbook. What aspects of the subject might be most interesting to a modern audience?
  2. Compare several different translations (including the King James) of Psalm 23 or another portion of the Bible. What do different versions emphasize? Which do you find most compelling or moving? Why?
  3. Attend a performance of an oratorio such as Handel’s Messiah or Bach’s St Matthew Passion. What do you find compelling or effective? What do you not care for? What do you think the contemporary equivalent of the oratorio might be?
