Go to Verizon's SuperPages at http://www.superpages.com/ and click on "Nationwide" under "Other Search Options". Or you can use any national yellow pages that will let you search the entire country. Search for businesses with a name that you think identifies a particular region of the country, such as "Hoosier", "Tarheel", "Green Mountain", "Knickerbocker", or "Lonestar". When you get your list, print out the chart and map below. Tally up how many names you get for each U.S. state and create a choropleth (shaded) map using the blank map of the United States. WARNING: Some terms will produce a lot of results, so narrow your focus as much as you can. Do not use "Southwest", "Eastern", or a similarly vague descriptor as a search term.
