| Physical Geography: Landforms
After reading and studying this chapter you should be able to:
- Describe the properties of the three main groups of rock and explain how they are formed.
- Give an overview of geologic time.
- Explain plate tectonics theory and the evidence that supports it.
- Differentiate between divergent, transform, and convergent boundaries and understand the features associated with each type.
- Identify the two primary tectonic forces and the kinds of landforms that are associated with them.
- Explain the three kinds of gradational processes and describe the landforms each produces.
- Understand and explain the difference between mechanical and chemical weathering.
- Distinguish between the effects of running water in humid and arid areas, and explain the difference between groundwater and surface water erosion.
- Explain how and why glaciers form, and describe the unique types of landforms they leave behind.
- Understand coastal processes and the landform features produced by them.
- Describe the landforms produced by the erosive and depositional power of wind.
