8.4 Grief Theories

Human beings appear to have an affinity for patterns and models that help them make sense of complex phenomena. However, although models can provide a "snapshot" of a dynamic condition, they also tend of oversimplify and distort reality. Surely this is the case with a complex phenomenon like grief. Read about the different frameworks upon which we build our understanding of grief. Respond to the following:

1
Pick one of the psychodynamic or "griefwork" models and describe its major components. What are its strengths and weaknesses?
2
Pick one of the task models and describe its major components. What are its strengths and weaknesses?
3
Identify the stage model and describe its major components. What are its strengths and weaknesses?
4
Identify the family-function model and describe its major components. What are its strengths and weaknesses?
5
What are the most important things you have learned from your study of various grief models?
