Case Studies
(See related pages)

In all the chapters the Case Studies represent situations similar to those that the medical assistant may encounter in daily practice. Students are encouraged to consider the case study as they read each chapter.

A 68-year-old female has been a patient for two years at the clinic where you work as a medical assistant. She suffers from both hypertension and obesity and is taking a diuretic medication (HCTZ, or hydrochlorothiazide) daily.

As you read this chapter, consider the following questions:

1. Why is it essential for you to take accurate measurements of this patient?

2. How can you help ensure the accuracy of these measurements?
