Participation Activity 2: Voter Education Project

  • Borrowing from Why Should I Care? box from American Democracy "Voter Participation: Why it Matters," this project starts to put to practice the lessons learned from the first participation project. Students will interview the mentors in their respective participation experiences, asking them what laws or government funding decisions affect their organizations and/or causes. The students will then put together grading reports of local candidates/officials on issues related to their particular participation project for voters to examine. If there is an active election at time of class, students can get involved in the reviewing and teaching awareness of current ballot and voting rights and procedures to the electorate.
