Chapter 4, "Archaeological Questions," concerns what archaeologists want to know. The daily life of ancient people is a continuing source of fascination. There are endless questions about them at a variety of different levels. Questions range from the raw material and function of artifacts to the operation of societies and the nature of human cognition. They concern events and process, stability and change, invention and the commonplace. Larger questions relate to the major changes in human behavior and society in the past.
